Granite worktops are a beautiful addition to any kitchen preparation area or island.
However if a disinfectant is desired reach for a bottle of 70 isopropyl alcohol. Beware all common household products you use for home cleanings such as lemon vinegar and anything else that is acidic. Careful cleaning will prolong the life of your granite worktop and keep it nice and shiny. Hot water and dish soap should be adequate for daily sanitizing.
To clean granite counters first wipe away any dust or spills with a clean damp microfiber cloth. However citrus essential oil is okay because its ph is neutral. This method will remove all grease and alien materials leaving the work top surface very clean shiny and smear free. Spray it onto the granite allow to sit for three to five minutes and then rinse with water and dry with a clean microfiber cloth.
The correct way to clean a granite or quartz work top is to use a ph neutral cleaner and a clean grease free cloth. The worktops that you prepare and perhaps eat your food on need to be kept as hygienically clean as possible. Many homes also have granite countertops fitted in their bathrooms as well. Be sure to choose an antibacterial cleaner rather than a simple antibacterial spray.

Avoid using cleaning solutions with abrasive or acidic properties such as vinegar. Good ph neutral cleaners are worth buying to make every day cleaning your worktop easy. Cleaners that contain ammonia vinegar or lemon are too acidic for granite countertops and they can actually break down the surface. Avoid using acidic cleaners on granite.
Avoid most commercial disinfecting cleaners such as anything with bleach. Black granite looks wonderful when newly polished but it takes a lot of elbow grease to keep it looking shiny. For a deeper clean use a specialized granite cleaner. Then gently wipe the entire surface from end to end.
Wring out the cloth and wipe again with clean water to remove any soap residue as over time it can leave a film behind especially on dark granite.
