Keep in mind that quartzite is a natural stone while the similarly named quartz is engineered stone.
However patterns and colors that look like more natural stones are available giving quartz the best of both worlds. Striations are grooves formed in stone from movements in the earth and although they may be invisible to us are present in cut slabs of granite. Granite however is more susceptible to chips and cracks due to natural striations in the stone. Thus quartz is an engineered stone.
Unlike granite and marble which require frequent care and cleaning quartz surfaces are as low maintenance as it gets. Granite is a very hard stone and 100 percent natural. Quartz countertops costs can run in the same range as granite but on avergae the cost of quartz may run a bit higher than its natural counterpart at times. Quartz countertops are engineered surfaces that are made from a combination of roughly 90 percent ground natural quartz and about 10 percent polyresin.
Quartz is slightly different in that it is not 100 percent natural. While both granite and quartz are found naturally quarts can be found as small crystals that are made into a stone by adding colors and resins. It s mined from quarries all around the world cut down to a manageable size and then polished to a fine finish. The biggest difference between natural stone and engineered quartz is that natural stone is 100 natural and does not require the manufacturing of other materials in order to qualify it as stone.

Quartzite forms as a result of sandstone that has high quartz content being exposed to high amounts of heat and pressure. Although quartz countertops are engineered the surfaces are incredibly attractive. Granite prices vary due its natural composition and uniqueness also the supply and demand of the stone. Quartz is a combination of materials some natural and others that need to be manufactured which is more energy and resource intensive.
Some granite colors and patterns are easier to come across than others. These specific percentages can slightly differ based on brands but will always be in the same area.
